As explained elsewhere on this site, there is evidence indicating a textual link between the gospels used in the ancient Syriac speaking church and the Aramaic culture of Palestine in the first Christian century. These pages will eventually present more of the scholarship underlying the recovery of early Syriac gospel texts. To begin with, some examples are given from this primitive Aramaic gospel text, with some English translations and brief commentaries.
These excerpts come from an Aramaic gospel text which I show, began it's life with the Apostles in first century Palestine. This gospel text type owes it's survival to the writings of the early eastern Syriac speaking church fathers and to other traces of it found in Syriac biblical manuscripts dating from the fifth century AD onwards. These readings demonstrate the unique character and theology of the early Aramaic gospels and they also exhibit Christ's teachings in a new and vivid way. The twenty-first Christian century is a critical time for Christian belief. It is therefore a good time to discover more about the first-century origins of our faith and to put it into practice.
